The diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus gave rise to this authentic example of true literature, which tells the sad and cruel daily life of a woman who survives as a paper collector and does everything she can to stave off hunger and raise her children in the Canindé favela, in São Paulo. In the midst of an environment of extreme poverty and class, gender and racial inequality, we are faced with the difficult daily lives of those who do not have a tomorrow, but who still resist in the face of poverty, violence and hunger. And we realize with sadness that, even though it was written in the 1950s, this book has never lost its relevance. The first publication of Quarto de Eviction: diary of a favela, by Carolina Maria de Jesus, dates back to 1960, so in 2020, when 60 years of its existence are celebrated, Somos Educação will make a special edition of this, which is a very important work for Brazilian literature. With a renewed graphic design and cover signed by the artist No Martins, in addition to the author's original text, this book has a preface signed by the writer Cidinha da Silva, photographs of the manuscripts of Carolina Maria de Jesus and a critical fortune with writers such as Alberto Moravia ; literary critics, such as Marisa Lajolo, Carlos Vogt, Elzira Divina Perpétua, Fernanda Miranda; historians, such as José Carlos Sebe Bom Meihy, and journalists, such as Audálio Dantas, responsible for publishing the first edition of the book, and Otto Lara Resende.
