It's not enough to not be racist: Let's be anti-racist - by Robin Diangelo
Descrição
It's time for all white people to abandon the idea of superiority and, in fact, act in the fight against racism. Denial, silence, anger, fear, guilt... these are some of the most common reactions when someone is told that they have acted, usually unintentionally, in a racist way. Being openly racist is not socially acceptable. Nobody wants to be seen like that. But every time racism is denied, we prevent it from being addressed and our prejudices from being discussed. Reactions of denial not only serve to silence those who suffer prejudice, they also hide a feeling that author Robin Diangelo began to call white fragility. In his studies, Diangelo cataloged phrases, words and feelings of volunteers who see themselves without any prejudice and demonstrated that, deep down, he was there. His proposal is that everyone starts listening better, establishing more honest conversations and reacting to criticism with politeness and trying to put themselves in the other person's shoes. It is not enough to just support liberal views or condemn racists on social media. Change starts with us. THE AUTHOR: ROBIN DIANGELO has been a university professor, author and consultant on racial and social justice issues for over twenty years. Isn't it enough to not be racist? Let's Be Anti-Racists has been at the top of the world's best-selling book lists since its release.
