Modern furniture in Brazil, by Maria Cecilia Loschiavo dos Santos, is a serious work of research on the formation of modern Brazilian furniture, but also an effort to understand this phenomenon that is so little studied among us. In this particular sense, the book, in a way, rescues the cultural and aesthetic character of the furniture, in the midst of technical and commercial problems. The book traces a perspective that goes from the origins of modern Brazilian furniture, in the 1920s, to the most independent achievements from the 1960s to the 1980s, to contemporary production. It provides us with a synthetic and enlightening view of the history of our modern furniture and I consider it essential reading for students and all those interested in knowing the history of industrial or artisanal objects that are part of our daily lives.
