Descrição
Mythology of the Orixás, by sociologist Reginaldo Prandi, is the most complete collection of myths of the Orixá religion ever gathered around the world. There are 301 mythological stories, stories that tell, through concrete images and not abstract ideas, what they are like, what they do, what they want and what they promise the gods of this very rich African pantheon that survived and prospered in countries in America - in particularly in Brazil and Cuba - and which in recent years has been exported to Europe. In traditional Yoruba society, it is through myth that the past is reached, the present is interpreted and the future is predicted. Each myth, therefore, is an ever-renewed surprise, a revealed secret that never allows itself to be completely revealed. By narrating episodes in which gods such as Exu, Ogum, Iemanjá and Iansã were involved, Mythology of the Orixás draws our attention to deep vital senses and brings us closer to the vast cultural heritage of the black Yoruba or Nagô people. The book is richly illustrated, with colorful photos of all the orixás that manifest themselves in Candomblé ceremonies in Brazil and illustrations by artist Pedro Rafael.
