Descrição
By Ana Lima Cecílio The expression “verb of the river” has, in addition to its beautiful sound, a joke that only a poet like Mariana Paz could make. River, if it is a word that brings rushing waters, passage, never the same, as Heraclitus said, is also the present indicative of the verb laugh. The verb of the river is, therefore, movement, passage and action. But also, between the lines, emotion – laughing, a silent and calm laugh, ingenious and intelligent, but full of tenderness, as never loud laughter, but a laugh of satisfaction from the most intimate feeling, from the whispered poem, polished until all that remains is the meat, or rather, just the bone. Thus, of calcium and strength, of refinement and appeal, is the poetry of Mariana Paz. Small sculptures carved in the deepest part of us, that depth that is feeling and idea, a pearl fished from the sea of so much noise, a flower that sprouted, not in the asphalt, like that of the other poet, but on dry soil after so much cultivation. And it is obvious and beautiful, for anyone who reads it, that Mariana's soil is cultivated with an incessant feeling and carved with the care of an architect. So open this book with attentive eyes and senses. Take your time, step slowly. Take a deep breath and that’s it – as Mariana teaches us, this is how poetry comes.
