Since the end of the 20th century, urbanism has tried to respond to the problems raised by the massive introduction of machines in urban groups, trying to reorganize them through models established a priori, which sometimes privilege income (the rationalist model), sometimes tradition, sometimes reintegration from the city to the countryside. Utopian, these matrices have led to successive failures - and yet they continue to be widely used. Reviewing the work of 37 authors, Choay seeks a less theoretical and more human urbanism.
