Book, Workers, The: studies on the History of Working Labor[LS]
Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Studies on the History of Workers in a revised edition with a new cover. The Workers, by renowned historian Eric J. Hobsbawm, portrays the history of the labor movement from the end of the 18th century until the First World War. Hobsbawm approaches the social history of work not limited to workers' organizations and leaders, but rather taking the working classes as a starting point for his research. This feature, a pioneer in studies on the subject, makes the book, even today, an important reference. The essays focus mainly on the economic and technical conditions that allowed, or prevented, the efficiency of labor movements. They address, among other points, the action of trade unions, the “Luddist” revolt against machines, Fabian socialism and the criticisms made of Marx by some English writers. Most of the texts were written for non-specialized daily publications, therefore their language is accessible to a wide readership. The Workers brings together important essays on a field in which Hobsbawm is recognized as one of the greatest scientific authorities: the history of the labor movement.
