Descrição
All the lyrics bring together around 470 songs written by Gilberto Gil, among which stand out classics such as "Domingo no parque", "Aquele Aberto", "Cérebroelectronic", "Expresso 2222", "Refazenda", "Refavela" , "Spiritual retreats", "Realce", "Every girl from Bahia", "Don't cry anymore", "Flora", "If I want to talk to God", "Drão", "Tempo rei", "The novelty", " A Paz" and "Parabolicamará", among other songs. In addition to Gil's own lyrics, they also include compositions made in partnership with, among others, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento, versions that Gil made for foreign songs and those that he and foreign artists made for songs he wrote. The volume, first published in 1996, returns in an expanded edition and revised by Gil himself and Carlos Rennó. An image notebook brings together photos ranging from the composer's childhood until 2003, in which Gil appears as Minister of Culture. The lyrics are presented in chronological order, subdivided into eight large groups that correspond to specific periods of the composer's production: from the first songs to the tropicalist phase (1962-66), from tropicalismo to the exile phase (1967-69), the two years in London and the three that follow back to Brazil (1970-74), the period of "Refazenda" and "Refavela", which continues with the reunion of Doces Bárbaros (1975-78), an opening phase for pop (1979-83), the second phase of the 80s (1984-89), the 90s and, finally, the production that comes after the year 2000. Gil comments on 200 of these lyrics, in texts that are the result of conversations between composer with the collection's organizer, Carlos Rennó. All the lyrics also include unpublished compositions, recovered thanks to the artist's memory or collected from sources such as his verse notebooks, private archives, records of old shows and collections from publishers and record companies. "[...] Gilberto Gil continually ties and unties the distance between eternity and the instant through the intensities that flow from the verbal dance of his music." - José Miguel Wisnik "Gil always had the courage to say the things he believed in at precise moments [...] touching nerves in often adverse contexts, to which he responded with integrity and patience." - Arnaldo Antunes
