The Scientific Revolution, from the great navigations to Newton This anthology of texts on philosophy and history of science aims to put the student in direct contact with the ideas of the great exponents of the Scientific Revolution. Instead of "hearing about" or "reading about" what they think, the reader will have the opportunity to deal directly with the texts of Copernicus, Da Vinci, Galileo, Newton and many others. With the experience of more than 30 years of teaching, Professor Danilo Marcondes defends a more comprehensive interpretation of the Scientific Revolution, including, alongside the usual fields of physics and astronomy, also geography, language, medicine, the arts... Going further in this innovative vision, he also states that, in many aspects, the Revolution actually began with the challenges to traditional knowledge launched by the great navigations, and above all by the discovery of the New World. Prepared for didactic use, the volume is organized with: - an introduction for each thinker; - a comment that places each chosen excerpt in the context of the original work, highlighting its importance and indicating its central focus; - a series of questions and topics for discussion, at the end of each chapter, in addition to the indication of additional readings; - a chronology of the modern Scientific Revolution at the end of the book. This title adds to the other volumes in the Basic Texts collection and the book Initiation to the History of Philosophy, also written by Danilo Marcondes. Together, these works constitute a teaching apparatus of inestimable value - as evidenced by their widespread adoption in schools and universities.
