Vinicius de Moraes (1913-80), recognized as a great poet and musician, had a more comprehensive creative project. Inspired by the tradition of classical poets, who considered any manifestation that used words to be poetry, Vinicius invested a considerable part of his talent in theater. The first Vinicius - in poetry or theater - is an author taken by dilemmas of a metaphysical and transcendental nature. Cordelia and the Pilgrim, his theater debut in verse, is contemporary with the Five Elegies, although it was only published twenty years later. It is an account of the poet struggling against the human contingency whose pettiness torments him. Cordelia, the idealized woman, serves as a guide for him to cross from an impalpable world to another, closer to the ground, full of passions and miseries. Orfeu da Conceição, staged in 1956, impressed audiences and critics with the lyrical intensity it brought to the film. universe of black people on a hill in Rio. Inspired by the Greek myth of the singer who loses his muse and becomes silent in pain, it revealed the songs of Tom Jobim and Vinicius, inaugurating a partnership that changed the course of Brazilian popular music. Vinicius's theater naturally evolves into melancholic drama, prone to a pessimistic view of humanity. We are looking for a rose, based on a vague newspaper report - a play by three authors in three independent acts, one of them written by Vinicius -, based on the premise that poetry is everywhere, even in a police station, and at A true poet must extract it from the raw material of everyday life. Then, and in correspondence with an inner transformation, Vinicius engages in a theater of denunciation. Imagine historical dramas, which you only sketch, or those with a strong social appeal. This genre includes As feras, a hyper-realistic tragedy that narrates, with the rigor of a scientist, the misfortune that befalls a family of northeasterners forced to migrate to Rio de Janeiro. Finally, he dedicates himself to comedies with music, which take advantage of his talent as a lyricist and composer. He does not conclude any of them, but he leaves well in advance Poor Rich Girl, whose reconstitution the reader will find in this volume. Going through such diverse genres, Vinicius tried to establish a trajectory as a theatrical author, hampered by an eventful and unpredictable life as an artist, which prevented him from investigating, in depth, his real skills as a dramatic author. 1992 Jabuti Award for Best Editorial Production of a Work in Collection
