Book, Different Drum, One[LS]

Language: Brazilian Portuguese. A black man buys a fraction of the farm where he works in the Southern United States. One day, for no reason, and under the eyes of his neighbors, white and black, he salts the land, kills the animals, burns down the house and leaves with his family. We read through in search of motivations for the act, but the author does not give in to easy explanations. On the contrary: he chooses to narrate the tragic event from the perspective of the white characters, who seem scared and indignant.
