Language: Brazilian Portuguese. This work, volume 5 of the Written by Marilena Chaui collection, makes us understand not only what violence is, but also how it operates in different situations – many of which are barely perceptible to us. Violence, a topic of investigation and concern for many thinkers, is also a topic that always captures us, as we recognize it in ourselves and in our relationships. We observe it every day, but we don't always reflect on it. In texts that deal with its most obvious forms, such as torture, class, racial and religious violence, including reflections on ethics and human rights, Marilena Chaui expands the idea of ​​violence, showing that it is more than just physical violence and crime, and pointing out situations in Brazilian life in which violence and power are united.
