Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Written between March 7 and 30, 1966, "O Sedutor do Sertão ou O Grande Golpe da Mulher e da Malvada" arose from an invitation received by Ariano Suassuna to take his story to the cinema screen. The film, however, ended up not being made due to lack of funds and the text ended up in the unpublished drawer, now being published for the first time. The narrative, written during the creation of "Romance d'A Pedra do Reino" (1958-1970), not surprisingly presents several points of contact with the author's masterpiece, starting with the protagonist, the comic anti-hero Malaquias Pavão, bastard brother of Pedro Dinis Quaderna. The idea for the plot's motto is taken from a passage in "Os Sertões", by Euclydes da Cunha, to whom the book is dedicated: a scam to get rich by smuggling cachaça. Unlike the Euclydian classic, however, Suassuna's text is full of humor, presenting laughter as a way of escaping our recurring political woes.
