The person who will tell you this story is an 11-year-old child. The fresh and humorous look of someone who still sees life as a mystery is here, but take it from me: don't underestimate Maria Carmem's loneliness. The apprentice writer, facing the anxieties of the “worst age in the universe”, will prove to you that it is possible, indeed, for a girl to be lonelier than an old man. At least a girl who, like her, grows up and creates her questions among the objects in an “oldies store”. There they are already born old, fresh and heavy, sweet made of the hardest poetry. Maria Carmem was born at the end. So, what does age matter? As she herself says, “it is possible for a pencil to appear to be new, but broken inside”. It is like this, all broken inside, that she deconstructs the world before her, the adult world that creates rules and does not obey them, the school world, everything: “in math class the problem said that a boy and a girl needed to calculate How many oranges to take to the park if the boy guests ate so many and the girls only ate so many each. And I wrote that I wasn’t supposed to take any, that everything is a lie, no one goes to any park in this life.” This is also how she brings together and asks questions and creates poetry with everything that rises and falls, her parents, God, love, the body, death, how difficult it is to understand the love of others. When she grows up, Maria Carmem will be a writer. But Maria Carmem has already grown up and already is. This book is a generosity of his poetry. An opportunity for us to grow with it.
