Book, List: poems[LS]

In the work of Armando Freitas Filho, diversified over more than fifty years of poetic work, Lar, (2009), Dever (2013) and this Rol form an involuntary trilogy. The atmosphere of the three books is the same. Themes are treated with detail and relevance, and everyday, philosophical, memorial, erotic and lyrical issues are revisited, reviewed from different angles or revisited in an attempt to achieve greater density and knowledge in the new elaboration. Unlike the previous books, this one is structured through ten series of poems and three long ones: “Canetas loanadas”, “Suite para o Rio” and “De roldão”. Under the general titles, each of the series analogically opens the range of the subject motivating the correlations, arranged in the development of the composition. Some of them incorporated subtitles that imposed themselves during the course of writing. And the book ends with “Numeral”, which has been produced since 1999. The poetry of numerals does not end, it will continue in the next book or books, with no closing date, on the virtual horizon. The sequence of chapters deals with, as the “Preface Poem” says, “a little bit of everything”, with the backdrop of death seen up close by the 76-year-old poet. The work, for this very reason, is austere: written with dedication and courage. It is not a farewell book, as much was left out of this volume. The author will still have something to say to his readers, as the set of poems by Armando Freitas Filho that remained in the drawer awaits its future opportunity, as he says in Rol: “But there is still a 'tremulous melody'/ that is worth listening to , recording as/ tracking my private time/ which would be little, but would at least give/ a glimpse of everyone’s time.”
