“Reza de Mãe”, a book of short stories by Allan da Rosa, is a promising debut, in more than one sense of the word. Like any writer who does justice to his craft, Allan's artistic project is ambitious. It's not just about giving voice to the excruciating daily lives of those who live on the margins of the system. He does so through an aesthetic revolution that spans several levels, from the work of fixing sonorous words and names of African origin (malunga, requenguela, Mutalambô and others) to an original syntax in the making of narratives, which have great power of enchantment. thanks both to the poignant lyricism of the characters' fates and the intertwining of some stories. “Reza de Mãe” represents a new and beneficial aspect of contemporary Brazilian literature that can no longer be ignored.
