Descrição
A rich dialogue that invites us to think deeply about the society in which we live. This essay is the result of intense correspondence between Zygmunt Bauman, one of the most important contemporary thinkers, and Gustavo Dessal, an Argentine psychoanalyst. The return of the pendulum presents itself as an interdisciplinary dialogue, at the meeting between sociology and psychoanalysis, taking as starting points the concept of liquidity and the thoughts of Sigmund Freud. For Bauman, the pendulum movement that oscillates between the desire to achieve more freedom and the desire for security has reversed course since the publication of Freud's work Civilization and Its Discontents in 1929: a seminal shift that he called of "liquid phase of modernity". Today, however, we may be experiencing a new inversion - and what will this turn bring us in the future? The book includes 4 articles by Bauman interspersed with comments by Dessal. In this unusual conversation that goes beyond the similarities between the two branches of knowledge, they reflect on key issues in the contemporary world. Security versus lack of freedom; man's affliction in the liquid world and his search for an identity; the fragility of human relationships; the marginalization of immigrants; among other topics so dear to the Polish sociologist.
