That Plato wrote with The Republic a work that, beyond its historical time, will no longer be in the agora, but on the tables, in the tribunes and in the forums of discussion in all times, something proven by the luck that has been reserved for him until now , is beyond doubt. Reaffirming it is a truism, but with it the question always resurfaces: what is its current status? A question that each era asked in its own terms and that, with good reason, we can repeat. If the nerve center of the discussion and investigation developed by Plato is, certainly, the city, the polis, and the forms and structures of relationships and government of its citizens, the standards of morality and justice that guide them and regulate the clash of their interests and the perfect solution that can be given to them in an ideal politeia, it is no less true that the arguments adduced around the problem of tyranny and democracy are on the agenda of conflicts and debates in our contemporary times, with a topicality that has the global extent of the world in which we live.
