Descrição
If there is a field that deserves research attention in Brazil, it is children's literature. We have no shortage of authors, publishers or booksellers offering the small (and large) reader a wide range of important titles with great editorial quality. But critical literature of this genre still does not receive the attention it deserves. THE REPRESENTATION OF CHILDREN IN CHILDREN'S LITERATURE: RÉMI, PINOCCHIO AND PETER PAN, however, may be inaugurating a new moment in the area. Because Isabel Lopes Coelho's book is an example of the maturity of children's literature criticism among us, as João Luís Ceccantini highlights in his preface. From each of the three classics of the genre, Coelho “picks out an excerpt meticulously selected for their metonymic potential”, analyzing them “in an elegant and lively style”, very well based on the international critical fortune. From this composition of voices, the three works, and children's literature as a whole, emerge redefined, and the adult reader will finally be introduced to this child who is not a flat character, created with edifying purposes, but rather the subject of his/her ) own story(s), on their own terms.
