Book, Racism in textbooks: study of blacks and whites[LS]

Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Why has it been so difficult to change the representations of blacks and whites in Brazilian textbooks? Based on this question, Paulo Vinicius Baptista da Silva presents here an analysis of the discourses on black and white racial segments in Portuguese language textbooks. The books are intended for Brazilian elementary education and were produced between 1975 and 2003. And, despite the chronological interval, what is clear is that our children have access to stereotypical, prejudiced information. What has changed in these speeches, which appear on the pages of textbooks and perpetuate a mistaken interpretation, on the part of students, of themselves, others and society? This is what the author shows, attentive to the gaps in academic knowledge accumulated on the subject, the intense social mobilization and the mistakes and misdirections of government action regarding the issue.
