This book, which follows the first volume of Lacanian Psychopathology: Semiology, now focused on nosology, continues the project that began more than three years ago and which resulted from the partnership between Autêntica, the organizers of the volume and the Brazilian School of Psychoanalysis. It deals with human suffering. It seeks to understand it in its subtleties, complexities and strangeness, even the most terrible. The authors gathered here face the challenge of dealing with illness without failing to deal equally with the subjective experience of this illness. They therefore refuse to reduce the human experience of pain to models that exclude its subject. Emphasizing the importance of words and logic in a world where the dimension of the truly human often almost disappears once it is approached only through the quantitative and organic is the direction that psychoanalysis, like the one conveyed in this book, points us towards and invites us to explore. In these pages, Lacanian psychoanalysis is presented didactically, in the best sense of the term – with simplicity and precision, in a direct and orderly way and with the gains of knowledge arising from the application of psychoanalysis to the study of mental illness.
