Book, Dark Night and More Me, A[LS]

Originally published in 1995, A Noite Escura e Mais Eu (title taken from a verse by Cecília Meireles) brings together nine short stories of high dramatic intensity and extreme literary precision. Using sometimes the first person, sometimes the third person narrative, Lygia Fagundes Telles always seems to take her characters in the opposite direction, in extreme situations that reveal the most secret and incommunicable aspects of them. They are, in general, stories of destinies frustrated at some point, either by external circumstances or by inner traumas and ghosts. In these mature tales, the author displays all her narrative mastery, made of sensitivity and subtlety, where there is no place for exhibitionism or vulgarity.
