Book, Body Fight, A[LS]

Published in 1954, A Luta Corporal is Ferreira Gullar's second book of poems. It was with this work that the young poet caught attention on the Brazilian literary scene, arousing the interest of Oswald de Andrade and the concretist poets Haroldo and Augusto de Campos, with whom he became close. Some poems disintegrated the syntax and were concerned with the graphic arrangement of the verse on the page. In addition to radical aesthetic experiments, the poems reflect on time and death, marking the entry of a powerful, authorial voice into Brazilian poetry. The Companhia das Letras edition features an unpublished afterword by Miguel Conde.
