For Kraepelin, psychosis presents some fundamental characteristics. Firstly, the delusion of reference, then the illusions of memory, which entail forms of delirium of persecution, of grandeur, which include prophecy, inventions, reforms of the world, in addition to erotomania and querulence. There is a particularity in manic-depressive madness: it brings together, in addition to all manic and depressive states, all acute states. States that are not confusional and do not constitute syndromes of dementia praecox. Kraepelin does not accept the existence of simple melancholy. For him, recurrences are always observed.
