Descrição
If in Adão's House in Paradise (Perspectiva, 2003), Joseph Rykwert discussed the genesis of the building, the primitive hut, in The Idea of City the author deals with the genesis of the urban. For him, when occupying a territory, men organize it according to their cosmogonic models and cultural principles, much more than just functional, in clear critical reference to the urban plans proposed for contemporary cities. With this, it brings an idea of a city that conforms culturally, and in which the most recent use the oldest in their constitutive process, in a mythical-historical corpus, pointing to an archetypal origin. Today, with the great physical and population expansion of urban centers, converted into effective megalopolises, the debate proposed by Rykwert assumes such intensity and relevance that this book becomes a fundamental reference work for the training and reflection of those who dedicate themselves to the study of cities.
