Book, Homophobia: history and critique of prejudice[LS]
Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Homophobia is the attitude of hostility towards homosexuals, therefore, men and women. What are its origins? What are its relationships with other forms of stigmatization and discrimination? In what way and from what discourses was both heterosexual supremacy and the related devaluation of homosexuality constructed? Is there a homophobic personality? And what resources are available to us to fight this form of violence? “The memory is, unfortunately, quite short: the arguments currently adopted against homosexual marriage convey prejudices similar to those that had been used in the USA to prohibit interracial marriages. The problem of homophobia surpasses the gay issue, being part of the same logic of intolerance that, at different moments in history, produced the exclusion of slaves and Jews as well as Protestants.”
