Margot Berthold did a remarkable job in her World History of Theater, by integrating in what could be said to be an exquisite way the documentary search, the event record and the power of scriptural synthesis. This resulted in a book of unusual scope. Combining the history of dramaturgy and spectacle, aesthetic and critical analysis of current artistic trends and currents on and off the stage, the outstanding figures and works of scenic creation and their interrelations, it brings together in a single volume a repertoire that will be of undoubted use for anyone, expert or beginner, seeks precise information and a vision of the most representative periods in the history of theater in its pages. In publishing it, the publisher Perspectiva spared no effort to overcome the difficulties of translating and editing such a complex collection of texts and images, certain of bringing to its readership a work of great relevance to the Brazilian theater library.
