Descrição
After the acclaimed biographical trilogy by Getúlio Vargas, Lira Neto took on the challenge of telling the story of urban samba. In his new venture (breathtaking!), the writer from Ceará intends to retrace, with his singular narrative verve, the complete journey of this syncopated rhythm that is one of the synonyms of Brazilianness. Due to the richness and breadth of the compiled material, filled with unpublished documents and photographic records, the project will be divided into three volumes - in this first, Lira takes the reader from the origins of samba to the initial parade of samba schools in Rio. Carioca samba was born at the beginning of the 20th century from the gradual adaptation of rural samba from Recôncavo Bahia to the urban environment of the then federal capital. A descendant of Afro-Brazilian beats, but equally indebted to dancing polka, the genre found fertile ground in the street Carnival celebrations. In the 1920s and 1930s, with the improvement of the phonographic market and radio broadcasting, it consolidated its lasting popular success, symbolized by the emergence of the first stars of the genre and the founding of samba schools.
