Book, Fernando and Isaura's Love Story, A[LS]

Language: Brazilian Portuguese. “A História do Amor de Fernando e Isaura” (1956) is Ariano Suassuna’s first venture in the field of prose fiction and was written as a kind of exercise for the subsequent creation of “Romance d’A Pedra do Reino”. The author was inspired by the classic legend of Tristan and Isolde to tell this story of a forbidden love with a tragic ending, set in Alagoas, and full of references from the Nordestino Popular Romance. The book features new illustrations by Manuel Dantas Suassuna, artist and son of Ariano, and an enlightening presentation by Carlos Newton Júnior, one of today's greatest experts on the work of the writer from Paraíba.
