Fundamentals of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases was written with the collaboration of the most renowned Brazilian specialists, professors and researchers, leaders in the knowledge of infectious diseases, microbiology, parasitology, ecology, epidemiology, immunology and genetics, among them professors and researchers from several universities and research institutes in Brazil, including researchers from UFRJ, Fiocruz and the National Academy of Medicine (ANM). The work aims to address the fundamentals of infections and infectious and parasitic diseases, inflammatory responses, ecology and epidemiology and preventive measures, vectors and reservoirs, management of infectious and parasitic diseases, in addition to their prevention and treatment, particularly the use of antibiotics, vaccination schedule and main infectious syndromes, including cofactors of cancer and accidents caused by venomous animals. In addition to these basic aspects covered in the first chapters, the book presents chapters organized by diseases produced by protozoa, helminths, fungi, bacteria and viruses, their etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, naturally with the peculiar organization of particularities of each of the diseases covered. Therefore, this new work becomes essential for undergraduate students of medicine and other specialties in the health area, meeting, in exact proportion, their needs in a comprehensive and updated way.
