In 'The Fragmentation of Character', Maria Lúcia Levy Candeias traces the historical path through which one of the most prominent trends in contemporary stages and scenic experiments manifests itself, in which the theatrical character goes through a process of deconstruction and fragmentation, pointing to a theater less emposed and dependent on a cohesive and complete persona. We are moving towards a less totalizing construction, in which the parts gain their own autonomy and meaning. Conceived at the end of the 1980s, the research shows all its currentness and power, when compared with the most recent and relevant assemblies, which, to a large extent, confirm the trends pointed out in it and validate its critical approach, at the same time sensitive and rigorous, constituting a valuable instrument for those who study and practice theater, both as a theme of their main debates and no less as a source for the processes of artistic renewal in the scene.
