Book, In Defense of Free and Democratic Public Education Chaui 6[LS]
Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. This work brings together the majority of Marilena Chaui's writings dedicated to the theme of education, in a broad sense: memories of the student and teacher, reflections on teaching and learning, theoretical analyses, public interventions, proposals, etc. The author does not play the role of a philosopher who wants to provide educational models or develop learning theories; one discovers, on the contrary, the teacher and thinker, the educator who manages to reconcile the vigor of her own experience with theoretical depth and weld them together through political commitment in the service of education, an education essentially linked to democracy. One of the main lines of Marilena's meditation on education is the fight against authoritarianism present in our education system (sometimes more visible, like during the dictatorship, sometimes less visible, like today). In effect, attempts to establish an anti-authoritarian pedagogical relationship must culminate precisely in what the author calls “democratic pedagogy” or “democratic pedagogical relationship”, preparing the way for the larger issue of building a democratic society.
