Orthodontic elastics are auxiliary mechanisms in orthodontic treatment. Currently, there are several types of orthodontic elastics available on the market, in various sizes, colors and strengths. However, more efficient tooth movement will only be obtained if the professional considers the physical and mechanical principles and their behavior, knowledge of their applications clinics, the advantages and disadvantages and select elastics based on such requirements. Therefore, this work aims to guide orthodontists in choosing the most appropriate type of orthodontic elastic for each case, aiming for more satisfactory results in their treatments, in order to better understand elastics and their effects.
