Descrição
On the centenary of the editor's birth, DIGITALS OF A READER is a conversation from reader to reader on a journey through Brazilian and foreign literature spanning many decades. Authors who disappeared leaving monumental works, others who emerged with original prose and development and still others recovered by memory, resurrected because they resonate with current times. Mastery, free thinking and passion for literature emanate from J. Guinsburg's writing, with erudition, joy and talent. FOURTH COVER This is not just any book. It is born from the pen of someone who in his long career has had books as a way of life and mission. It is, therefore, a book of books, in which its author evaluates, comments and criticizes many of the main Brazilian and foreign publications of the last seventy years, some of which he himself, as editor, published. Self-taught, J. Guinsburg's writing is loose and profound, as befits a talented and shrewd free thinker. With its records of historical moments of books that come to light and authors that depart, Digitais de um Leitor is also a tribute to all those who carried out and carry on the pleasurably arduous job of writing, editing, publishing and selling literature in Brazil, and trying to attract each of the passers-by and sailors to the infinite horizons that only good literature provides. It is, therefore, a reader's book for all readers. FROM THE AUTHOR He was one of the most prominent Brazilian intellectuals of the last sixty years. An essayist, writer, translator and self-taught teacher, he held the chair of Theatrical Aesthetics at the Department of Performing Arts at the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo – CAC/ECA-USP. Always linked to the publishing market, he was one of the founders of the publishing house Perspectiva de São Paulo in 1965, of which he became the editor. Leading it until his death, over the years he built one of the most notable editorial collections in the country in the field of humanities. COLLECTION The Debates collection is dedicated to contemporary themes and current debates and controversies. The oldest, together with Estudos, and the best known of the publisher's collections, has almost 350 titles, some already famous in non-fiction literature. EXTRACTS FROM THE PREFACE Rosangela Patriota A characteristic that profoundly marks the relevance of Jacó Guinsburg's writings concerns, firstly, his great appreciation for History as a discipline in the field of human sciences, a fact that is even undisputed when one goes through his vast production intellectual. However, beyond this great passion of his, what draws attention in his writings from the 1950s is how he, from the point of view of aesthetic creation, anticipated, at least among us Brazilians, the dialogue between history and fiction. FROM THE BOOK The Northeast is a brazier burning in the national consciousness. Their suffering and protest deeply mark modern Brazilian literature, conditioning the work of some of the most legitimate exponents of that stage in which our writers, after the political and cultural revolutions that altered the face of the world and overturned old conceptions and canons, they woke up to the reality of their country and sought to integrate their contribution into the process of national self-awareness.
