Book, Diderot works 6 The Encyclopedist 2 history of philosophy[LS]
Descrição
This second volume of the History of Philosophy, in which the publisher Perspectiva brought together Diderot's writings for the French Encyclopedia, completes, firstly, the analysis that the encyclopedist undertook on ancient thought, including three of its greatest exponents: Heraclitus, Plato and Aristotle. Furthermore, it brings not only a summary of ideas but also a critical review of the main philosophers located between the Renaissance and the 18th century. Here we find, therefore, Copernicus, Galileo, Bacon, Descartes, Hobbes, Locke, Leibniz, Malebranche, Spinoza and Thomasius. Published and grouped for the first time in Portuguese, the articles that constitute the two volumes of this History of Philosophy form not only a collection of authors and schools, but reveal, either explicitly or between the lines, the way in which Diderot and a good part of Lights faced the thinkers and philosophical currents that preceded them. This means that in this reading it is possible to observe or verify several of the ideas-forces and principles of the Enlightenment: those that have proven to be flawed over time and those that remain, unshakable, as the highest values of humanity.
