Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Denis Diderot is often associated with the existence of the world's first comprehensive encyclopedia. But his boldest writing took place in the shadows. Taken to prison for his atheism in 1749, he decided to reserve his best books for posterity. Increasingly current in a world that discusses political polarization, it challenged all the truths of its century, from the sanctity of the monarchy to the racial justification of the slave trade.
