Book, Disenchantment of the world, The: economic structures and temporal structures[LS]

The result of initial investigations in Algeria, at the beginning of his career. With empirical observation and a lot of statistical data, Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) elaborates a very critical vision of the economy and development and shows how, in the search for economic progress, the traditional way of life of the people disintegrated in conflict with the new provisions capitalists, destroying the myth of a universal and rational Homo economicus defended to this day by economists of various persuasions. The book also issues a blunt warning of the social, economic and cultural damage caused by external structures of domination violently imposed on the lifestyles of the invaded populations. This new edition of Perspectiva has not only been revised but also expanded. In addition to the presentation by Elisa Klüger, researcher at the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap), who contextualizes the work and its author, it brings two other texts by Bourdieu about the Kabyles: “The Sense of Honor” and “The Kabyle House or the Inverted World”.
