Language: Brazilian Portuguese. The presence of Descartes in the guiding constellation of the philosophical spirit of the West is an unquestionable fact. As debatable as the realization of his ideal of refounding philosophy and the sciences may be, there is not the slightest doubt that these have, in his work, one of the main starting points of analysis and philosophical discourse, of the inquiry into what can be called in chronological and thematic terms of 'modern'. Due to his critical and speculative capacity, his aptitude and coherence in the investigation of physical and/or psychic phenomena, due to the experimental criteria of a direct and inductive or reflective and deductive nature, prevails in his meditation the search for solid and renewing knowledge, always subject to clarity and understanding of intellectual and factual reality. One can doubt the conclusion that many make that the modern spirit, without Cartesian intervention, would not have gained the extent and dynamism that it actually achieved. But the counter-evidence comes not only from its impact on philosophy but also, notably, on mathematics, physics and physiology. It is therefore right that the Textos collection brings to the reader one of the most extensive and well-careful translations into Portuguese. of this thinker's legacy, hoping to offer our readership a more complete textual cartography for the knowledge of Descartes and his universe of knowledge.JG and NC
