Combining theoretical discussion with the analysis of Brazilian politics in recent decades, Luis Felipe Miguel promotes in this book a re-reading of the “crisis of democracy”, so popular in recent years, from the perspective of the developing world, in particular Brazil. The author discusses the weaknesses in the political and constitutional arrangement of the New Republic, which contributed to the bankruptcy of its institutions. He analyzes the trajectory of the Workers' Party, the political options of “Lulism” and its defeat, which meant the defeat of the New Republic project. And finally, it identifies the reasons for the resurgence of a strong extreme right and the impasses of a left that found itself forced to assume the position of guardian of a social order today in crisis, pointing out the challenges that need to be faced so that the democratic reconstruction in Brazil proves to be more solid and lasting.
