Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Marilena Chaui's influence and recognition as one of the most important intellectuals in the country are related not only to her strictly philosophical writings, but, above all, to her contribution to Brazilian social and political thought in recent decades. The collection Escritos de Marilena Chaui, created to facilitate access to texts published in different vehicles and offer readers volumes that bring together specific themes covered by the philosopher, brings special compilations of essays, articles and interventions – already published and unpublished, all reviewed by author. In this first volume, Marilena follows the political reflection of Frenchman Étienne de La Boétie and faces the challenge of understanding the paradoxical human experience of voluntary servitude, analyzing its intricacies and implications. In eight texts covering three decades of intense production on the subject (from 1982 to 2013), Chaui shows how voluntary servitude is present everywhere: many live under the rule of one who stands out from his peers, rises above of society and subjects it, commanding it, while others serve, voluntarily. The volume closes with an interview specially given for this publication. In it, the author takes stock of the collection and her encounter with La Boétie.
