Language: Brazilian Portuguese. For the first time, the collection of all the short stories by one of the most visceral authors of Brazilian counterculture. Published between the 1970s and 1990s, Caio Fernando Abreu's short stories are the portrait of a generation. The authoritarian and dark times of the Leading Years appear in this meeting not only as a backdrop, but as a constituent part of a prose that became renowned for its combative and radical style. Life and work, here, mix to the point where biography becomes literature and vice versa. In Complete Tales, the reader has the chance to go through the author's entire production in the genre of brief prose. The volume encompasses six titles — Inventory of the Irremediable (1970), The Stabbed Egg (1975), Stones of Calcutta (1977), Moldy Strawberries (1982), Dragons Know No Paradise (1988) and Black Sheep (1995) —, in addition to ten separate short stories, three of which have never been published in books. Finally, the book includes texts by Italo Moriconi, Alexandre Vidal Porto and Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda, which shed light on the current situation of Caio Fernando Abreu. When writing about love, death, fear, sexuality, loneliness and joy, the author of Onde andará Dulce Veiga? builds complex and absolutely profound characters in every detail. With verve and sensitivity, the “writer of passion”, nicknamed Lygia Fagundes Telles, knew how to combine delirium and lucidity, euphoria and anguish, light and shadow like no one else.
