Fran is an influencer with millions of followers. His life in front of the camera is a succession of catchphrases, health tips and paradisiacal settings. For her, the Covid-19 pandemic is an opportunity to “take stock”, “seek new challenges” and “grow”. Of the three domestic workers who are Fran's employees, only Ju, who is Drica's mother and likes to take photos in her free time, agrees to spend the quarantine with her — the others are sent home with half pay. In the name of supporting the family, Ju begins a harsh relationship with Fran, who reveals herself to be more alienated, and above all cruel, than she could have imagined. Based on Ju's critical stance and his incisive look at the inequalities that make up Brazilian society, Confinada will lay bare the foundations of this cruelty. In the relationship between Ju and Fran, racism and class hatred are revealed in each episode, as well as the economic interests that fuel the injustice and privileges of whiteness. Combining social criticism, humor and drama, and bringing the real lives of millions of people to the center, Confinada is a landmark in comics and a unique portrait of the pandemic and Brazil. Few works that appeared during the period had as much impact as this series. Every week, hundreds of thousands of readers followed the unfolding of Fran and Ju's lives. Created by the duo Leandro Assis and Triscila Oliveira, Confinada reveals, with fierce humor and bringing to light dramas close to so many Brazilians, the racist and classist mechanisms of our society, but it also presents a generation that decided to take the lead in its history and create a new reality.
