Book, Trust and fear in the city[LS]
Descrição
The city of our time has become a territory of fear and insecurity. For this very reason, the architecture of metropolises has become defensive: closed neighborhoods, fences, walls and a series of mechanisms that restrict contact with others. The result is an urban space that promotes segregation, rather than the encounter of differences – a hallmark of large cities in its origins. The challenge for contemporary thinkers and politicians, according to the brilliant sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, is to recover the community dimension of public space, as a way of learning the art of safe, peaceful and friendly coexistence. The book includes an analysis of architecture in large cities, revealing an original point of view in Bauman's work.
