Citizen of the World, a title that is now part of the Perspectives collection, documents and history, in a resounding way, the official rejection of the Jews not only in the authoritarian period of the Vargas Era, the Estado Novo, but also in the 'democratic transition' of the Dutra five-year period. Maria Luiza Tucci Carneiro analyzes, with the objectivity of the experienced researcher that she is - and which does not exclude the investigative passion capable of shedding light on the dustiest corners of history, nor the firm positioning in the face of criminal omission -, documents discovered in Brazilian archives and foreigners who reveal a past of discrimination against Holocaust victims and demonstrate that racism in general and, in particular, anti-Semitism, more than the mistaken policy of a government, is a characteristic feature, perhaps an introjected prejudice, of some circles of the Brazilian elite, whether political, military or diplomatic; an underlying force that gives meaning to certain positions taken by our diplomacy in the past, and whose consequences are still present. For all these aspects, it is, therefore, a courageous work that will provide the reader with a deep dive into the underground of policies that have not always been openly declared and an objective vision of their meaning.
