Language: Brazilian Portuguese. In the play "O Casamento Suspeitoso", written in 1957, Ariano Suassuna continues his project of creating an erudite Brazilian theater based on elements extracted from popular culture, also presenting, as a backdrop, a religious vision of man and the world focusing on the sin of lust. The circus aesthetic, already present in "Auto da Compadecida", remains here, in the pair of characters formed by Cancão and Gaspar, direct heirs of the clowns who marked the author since childhood. Using stage games renowned in the tradition of Mediterranean comedy, Suassuna reaffirms in this text his absolute mastery in mastering laughable situations.
