Book, Letters from prison[LS]

The new edition of the book by Frei Betto, an icon of resistance and the fight against the military dictatorship in Brazil, brings together a series of letters written by him during the almost four years (1969-73) in which he was imprisoned. Previously published in Brazil in two separate volumes, with the titles Letters from the Prison (1977) and Das Catacumbas (1978), both by Civilização Brasileira, the book now features twenty unpublished letters, recently found by the author. An extremely important historical document, the work portrays the harsh trials to which political prisoners were subjected and shows new generations what the struggle of young Brazilians meant for the fall of the dictatorship and the re-democratization of the country.
