The legacy of Carl Schmitt by Francisco Bilac. Carl Schmitt – Values, Technique, Economicity and the Guardian of the Constitution presents the author's reflections and Schmitt's perspective on topics related to the subject, without leaving aside its historical context. Focusing on values, technique, the economy of life, the Total State and the Guardian of the Constitution, this book also addresses authors who influenced Carl Schmitt's trajectory, such as Max Scheller and Nicolai Hartmann, although criticizing the Husserl's theories. Even if, as far as one can conclude, there is no admission by Carl Schmitt about these influences, there are striking features about these inspirations and those of several other conservative philosophers who were contemporary to Schmitt, such as Ortega y Gasset. Why read Carl Schmitt? Even though he passed away in 1985, Schmitt's legacy continues to be studied, especially when we are faced with the crises of democracy – in particular, the crisis of representative democracy. Controversial, the philosopher attracted the attention of the left and conservatives in the 1990s and continues to attract reflections on his work. This book is the result of Francisco Bilac M. Pinto Filho's doctorate and brings notes from his advisor, Aquiles Côrtes Guimarães, as well as studies after the end of the course. ?
