Descrição
The path to distance, published in Rio de Janeiro in 1933 (by Schmidt Editora), was Vinicius de Moraes' debut title. In the brief opening text, the poet says: "This book is my first book. It is unnecessary to say here what it means to me as my own thing [...]. There are around forty poems closely linked in a single movement, living and pulsating together, isolating itself in rhythm and extending in continuity, without anything being able to count separately. There is a common, indivisible whole". Since then, O Caminho Para a Distance has never been published again, and only one of his poems appeared in the anthology that Vinicius himself later organized of his work. The reader will now, therefore, have the opportunity to concentrate on a book marked by the intensity of themes, feelings and language, written by a poet who - at just nineteen years old - surprised the public and critics with his mystical and existential dramas. In addition to the rigorous fixation of the texts, a rich notebook of images places the book in its time and illustrates the biography of Vinicius de Moraes. The poems are followed by an afterword by critic Antonio Carlos Secchin - written especially for this edition - and critical texts published at the time The Path to Distance was released. Finally, a chronology of his life and work sketches a brief portrait of one of the most important names in Brazilian culture of all time.
