Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Revised and expanded edition of the books and D Leopoldina – The woman who architected the Independence of Brazil and D Pedro I – The man revealed by unpublished letters and documents In commemoration of the bicentenary of the Independence of Brazil, which was celebrated in 2022, the author Paulo Rezzutti , together with the publisher LeYa Brasil, prepared for readers the “Box commemorating the bicentenary of Brazilian Independence”. The box contains the expanded and revised editions, printed in hardcover, of the biographies of d. Leopoldina and d. Pedro I, with new content and images of the first rulers of independent Brazil. It will also include two postcards with little-known images of the biographies and a family tree of the Brazilian imperial family. This new revised and expanded edition of “D Leopoldina – the untold story – The woman who architected the Independence of Brazil” brings never-before-seen images of D. Leopoldina that were discovered over the last five years. One of them is an unpublished miniature made by Bernhard von Guérard that shows the then archduchess at 10 years old, another is an engraving that was published in the book Vaterländische Immortellen aus dem Gebiete der österreichischen Geschichte, which can be translated as “Immortals of the Fatherland in Austrian historical context”. The book, published in 1840, shows several Austrian heroes and elevates d. Leopoldina to this pantheon. After all, in the eyes of her home country, she made the sacrifice of leaving Europe to get married in America and thereby strengthening ties between Austria and Brazil, expanding the limits of her powerful Austrian house. The image they chose to commemorate her was her landing in Brazil alongside her husband d. Pedro. This new revised and expanded edition of “D Pedro – the untold story – The man revealed by unpublished letters and documents” brings an unpublished work written by Dr. Pedro de Freitas. Doctor graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Classical University of Lisbon and with a doctorate from Maimonides University, in Florida, in the United States, Dr. Pedro de Freitas, based on reports and documents from the time, produced a study about the disease that killed d. Pedro I at 36 years of age. His work puts to rest the hypothesis that the former emperor died from syphilis. Among the documents used for this study are those from the medical board that attended d. Pedro during his illness.
