Book, Architecture and Judaism: Mendelsohn[LS]
Descrição
Language: Brazilian Portuguese. Bruno Zevi (Rome: 1918-2000), architect, graduated from Harvard at the School of Design, then directed by Walter Gropius, anti-fascist fighter and militant socialist, published architectural books of international reach, in addition to fundamental texts in the field. Architecture and Judaism: Mendelsohn, by Editora Perspectiva, published in the Estudos collection, brings together the major themes of this author's thought. The first part of the volume discusses the existence of a Jewish art and culture in the Diaspora, highlighting within its scope traits and impulses capable of thriving in the cultural production of other human groups and, even more, universally, due to its ethical and humanist; the second section analyzes the trajectory of the German-Jewish architect Erich Mendelsohn, who was among the most prominent names in the art of architecture, particularly in his expressionist manifestation in the Weimar Republic, having been, due to his originality and projective power, a source of inspiration for new generations who continue to find a rich harvest of suggestions in imaginary architectural projects to erect buildings energized by light and implanted in an unbroken continuity between construction and landscape. It is, therefore, an indispensable reading book, for what it teaches and encourages, for architects, urban planners and all those interested in an architectural discourse that values human rights and the freedom to build and construct oneself as a way of living and integrating in the nature of man and his environment.
